The Clock 59 Eps

(3.7 stars; 3 reviews)

(59 Episodes) EXCELLENT SHOW!!! "THE CLOCK," was a 30 minute Australian-made suspense-mystery series, written by Lawrence Klee & narrated by 'The Clock' (aka: Father Time). Story settings were usually generic & Australian actors attempted to speak in a more neutral accent, in the hope that their program could be sold to Great Britain or the U.S.A. Occasionally writers slipped up on a word or two - ie: using 'boot' instead of 'trunk' when referring to a car. The show was eventually picked-up by the ABC network in the States, 1st U.S.A. broadcast was November 1946 - syndication by Grace Gibson Syndication. At the end of the first 15 month series run, production in the States was continued for an additional 13 week run; this time using an All-American cast & crew (actors, directors, musicians, etc). There is some confusion as to whether the American version originated from New York, then moved to Los Angeles, or was broadcast from Los Angeles for the complete American run. The series did air beyond the previously noted 13 week time period, as there are at least three known circulating episodes of this program from late 1948. Episode #046 Ophelia sounds wonky right at opening, but remainder of episode is quite alright. I have been unable to find any of the afore-mentioned "Late 1948" episodes (nor other eps) but will continue to be on the look-out! (SOURCE: The Old Time Radio Flier 45) * def gp ddh

Reviews

FANTASTIC.

(5 stars)

the clock's "nicky" episode is right up there with "the hitchhiker" (suspense) and "snow shadow area" (vanishing point)-some of the best ever made. its creepy, funereal, heavily atmospheric and full of twists. "nicky" concerns a woman whose fella is about to get fried in the electric chair, and if i tell you anymore, it will ruin it. you may think you know what's gonna happen, and you probably do, but the acting, the claustrophobic atmosphere and just plain noir spookiness of the whole thing will keep you listening. hugely recommended.

wouldn’t download or play

Loved the review but episodes would “download” in a 1/2 second and issue “fail to playback chapter.” Tried repeatedly — hope it is fixed as it sound scarily fun. Had to give it a rating or review wouldn’t post.

The Clock is originally US otr, not Australian
