The Second Bat Guano War

Read by J.M. Porup

(4 stars; 23 reviews)

From former Lonely Planet author J.M. Porup comes this classic South American noir...

Rats ate his baby daughter while he partied in a disco. Now Horace “Horse” Mann is a drugged-out expat teaching English to criminals in Lima, Peru. Oh, and doing the odd favor for the CIA.

When his Agency contact, Pitt Waters, goes missing, Horse's desperate efforts to find his only friend lead him to a Buddhist ashram on the shores of Lake Titicaca. There Horse uncovers his friend's involvement with a group of Gaia-worshipping terrorists who want to kill off the human “disease” infecting the earth.

Can Horse find his friend in time? And when he does—will he want to stop him?

Modern noir. Not for the faint of heart. I was pretty much disgusted by every single character in this book besides the Chinese spy/fry pan-making/coke dealer. lol. Horrible people one and all, including the protagonist. The last few chapters were a tad drawn out but I was absolutely compelled to listen. Mark of a good read. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it.

This is my first time leaving feedback for a book and I must say, this podcast was something different. It was vulgar, obscene, repulsive, and just overall a very good story. If I had to compare it to something, it was be Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral. Thanks ...

Hard boiled or boilerplate

Couldn't get past 3rd chapter. The author has trouble voicing his own characters, as if it's someone else's novel. Feels like a cut & paste job. No depth, impossible to suspend disbelief. Sorry

What a great ride. Gritty and compelling are the only adjectives that come close to describing this podiobook. I highly recommend it!
