Ever wish things were different?

Ivy Velasquez did, so she became someone else. In the 3D virtual world Marionette City, you can be anything you want — but everyone still knows who you are. Driven by her desire for a new life, Ivy takes her future in her hands when she makes another identity for herself. A brilliant designer, Ivy works for one of the huge firms which control the online system the world relies upon for both business and pleasure. But one day, Ivy discovers that her alternate self, Reuben Cobalt, had been murdered.

Since alternate identities are forbidden by the firms which control access to the nets and to M City, Ivy has nowhere to turn — until she finds Andersson Dexter. Part private eye, part vigilante and part cop, Dex sets out to uncover Reuben’s killer. Since the firms control almost every aspect of life, including law and order, justice for average people comes only at the hands of the outlaw organization to which Dex belongs.

Self Made is a murder mystery set in a vision of a future that seems to lurk just over the horizon. But above all, it is a story of how people strive to control their own destinies, and how that desire affects them and the people around them in ways they could never imagine.

Bravo!! I really enjoyed this book. Darusha...you have a sublime voice..not just as an author...but also as a narrator. Such perfect cadence...which I really appreciated. For many it's a brave new world out there...but for others...it's not. I loved Dexter's non-conformist stance to life. To many he would appear weak. But he is in fact strongh... choosing to chart his own course...and showing strength of character by not applying his skills and talents for real world gains. He is a maverick of our times and therefore very endearing. Can't wait to get into the next book...and the many others by Darusha. So entirely happy to have come across you Darusha...

This is a true post-human gumshoe detective story well written and read. The world is both believable and fantastic with a story that is both engaging and believable. Story and setting mesh to create a truly unique crime and a truly unique detective. It is well worth a listen and ...

So for the first half of the book I thought this was just an average book. I just finished Ready Player One by Earnest Cline recently, which has a very similar setting, so I'm probably judging to harshly. But the second half really ramped up. And the by the end......three ...

This book was a joy to listen to. The ending, as always with MDW, really delivers. Darusha has a marvelous writing style and a marvelous reading style. IMHO she's one of the best authors on podiobooks.

I really enjoyed this one, a good story with interesting characters. I was even able to understand the techie stuff, which, considering I'm not particularly tech savvy, has to be down to the authors writing.

Really a nice listen. It sounds like the audio quality and narration has improved since the author's last book. The story is a techno-thriller that's fast paced, geeky, and as others have said, mind-bending.

I really loved this story! Espically the twists in the last part. I hope we see more from this author.
