Brewster's Millions

Read by Lucy Burgoyne (1950 - 2014)

(4.3 stars; 11 reviews)

The story revolves around Montgomery Brewster, a poor man who inherits a large sum of money. However, there is a catch — he has to spend every penny within 30 days, and end up with nothing at that time. Should he make the deadline, he stands to gain an even larger sum; should he fail, he remains penniless.

Brewster finds that spending so much money is more difficult than he first thinks, especially when the lawyers are trying to make him fail so that they can claim the money. What makes it worse is that he starts to be a little too successful with some ventures, actually making money from them.
Can Brewster empty his pockets in time for the deadline, or will he end the book as he started it, with nothing? (8 hr 3 min)

Lot's of fun

(5 stars)

Montgomery Brewster inherits one millions dollars from his grandfather. A few days later he is informed that an uncle has died and left him seven millions dollar. However in order to inherit this larger sum there is a catch - and a big one. His uncle hated his grandfather, and stipulated in his will that Brewster is required to spend every penny of his grandfather's million within one year, and end up with no assets or goods gained by his grandfather's wealth at that time. Should he make the deadline, he will earn the full seven million; should he fail, he remains penniless. Being forbidden to tell a soul, and with many stipulations on how the money can and cannot be spent, Brewster must now must go seriously into the business of becoming a pauper! Quite a fun book to listen to. Well written and nicely read. I enjoyed it immensely ~ just wish it had gone on a little longer than it did!
