Fred Allen Texaco Star Theater 42 10 18 Orson Welles Les Miserables

(4.5 stars; 2 reviews)

Orson Welles visits the show, but not before his Personal Chief Technician arrives to check the microphone, his Acoustical Diagnostician has to check the acoustics, and his Personal Physician has to check the air quality.  After great fanfare, "Mr. Welles" enters, and confronts Fred about derogatory statements Fred had said about Orson.  Orson then asks Fred to appear with him in his play, Les Miserables, and they run through a rehearsal.

At minute 6:37 musical guest Benay Venuta from the Broadway show By Jupiter, (book and score by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart), sings, in her wonderful way, Everything I've Got Belongs To You. It’s not the whole song as sung with Ray Bolger in the show, but still, it’s great to have this, possibly the only recorded performance by a member of the cast of, and at the time of, the original-production.
