Nick Carter is a fictional detective who first appeared in 1886 in dime store novels. Over the years, different authors, all taking the nom de plume Nicholas Carter, have penned stories featuring "America's greatest detective". He has his work cut out when a body is discovered in a corridor of the second floor of the Wilton Hotel. He is quickly identified as Gaston Todd. I have enjoyed the stories, but the only let down is too many readers, lack of proper character translation and a few that had a difficulty in reading certain words.

This was an okay “super-detective” story. Having multiple readers for a book is disconcerting and detracts from enjoying the story, especially when one of the characters suddenly develops a southern drawl in a chapter.
