Mystery In The Air: The Queen Of Spades

(5 stars; 2 reviews)

Mystery In The Air: was one of those rare shows that successfully coupled great literary classics with superior acting talent to bring radio listeners a real treat in listening entertainment. For Eight Weeks during the summer of 1947 this half hour mystery series replaced The Abbott and Costello Show with a weird and wonderful sampling from the darker side of the masters’ minds. Stories written by Poe, deMaupassant, Dostoevsky, and Pushkin were brought to the air in terrifying reflections of reality. Tales of evil, of men twisted by sinister temptations satisfied, filled a summer’s evening with the chill of the deserted graveyard on a moonless night. The Queen of Spades avarice rears its monstrous visage as Pushkin’s mild mannered soldier seeks the key to the gambling tables, unaware that it opens the gates of Hell as well. Peter Lorre Stars in all eight episodes as the Tormented Driven Man.   This is a Golden Age Record that came out in 1978

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
