Clyde Beatty Show

Th e Clyde Beatty Show dramatized the exploits of the famous animal trainer, zoo owner, and circus entrepreneur . He eventually owned his own Clyde Beatty Circus from 1945 to 1956 and lent his name and likeness to circuses years after. He was in movies and television from the 1930s through the 1960s. The radio program was syndicated from 1950 to 1952 and fictionalized and embellished his real-life events. Radio veteran actor Vic Perrin played Beatty, and you can hear many of Hollywood’s established radio pros in the supporting casts of each episode. Larry Thor, better known as Lt. Danny Clover on Broadway is My Beat and as the signature voice of Suspense in the mid-1950s, is the announcer of the program. * * * These recordings are part of the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection. Mr. Hehn (1931-2020) was a pioneering collector of radio recordings when the hobby emerged in the 1960s. Digitizing his collection of reel tapes and discs is the effort of a wide range of North American volunteers, and includes assistance of some international collectors. The groups supporting this effort with their funds, time, technology and skills are the Old Time Radio Researchers and a small group of transcription disc preservationists who refer to themselves as the "The Knights of the Turning Table."
