The action of the Play passes in the Convent of Our Lady of Rheims, a French Nursing Order, at Denzil St. David, a village some miles from Norwich, England. The time is the beginning of 1947. Sister Bonaventure is the nun in charge. Her health is poor and the other nuns have tried to convince her to have a rest. On a stormy night, in the fen country, two prison wardens and a convicted murderess take shelter in the convent. Sarat Carn, is on her way to the gallows for the murder of her brother.   Sister Mary Bonaventure is convinced of her innocence and just before the police launch arrives, a confession is forced from the real murderer.
