Going Out And Coming In 01

Going in and going out Solomon asked God for Wisdom Do we know why? He gives a reason. Solomon said that there was something that he did not know and he asked for an understanding heart concerning the matter. I kings 3:5-9 “5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” 6 And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” “ I do not know how to come in or go out” What did he mean by that? When you see something in the Bible where you don’t know what it means, always know that the bible always defines itself. We get into trouble when we try to define the Bible This is when Moses was praying to God for the next successor to follow him. He says to God “ I want to make sure that he can do one thing…” Numbers 27:15-17 “Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.” Both times we’ve seen this, it has to do about leadership. Deuteronomy 31:2 “Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. 2 And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in. In Moses retirement speech he gives a reason as to why he is naming a successor; Because he can no longer go out, or come in!!! Deuteronomy 28: 6 “ Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out” ( is this just speaking of a blessing? Here is the clear definition: Joshua 14 – Caleb is talking to Joshua. Vs. 11 “As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Coming in and going out where military terms. So Solomon was saying, “ my dad was a warrior, He knew how to lead the people out, and he knew how to lead the people in. I don’t know how to do that.  I don’t know how to go to war, and how to come back from war. Are we in a war?  Do we have an enemy. So we know how to go out to war with the enemy and how to come in I Samuel 18 :12-16 “Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. 13 Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. 14 And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. 15 Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them. It refers to war. Come in?? What does this mean? They came in to worship! No matter the outcome of the war, they always went to the house of the Lord to Worship.  If they lost, they go to the Lord to find out what they did wrong If they won the war, they came in to celebrate If they were in the middle of the war, they would come in to get refreshed.   Now, if we stick to the principle that the OT is the a foreshadow of the NT then what does this mean to us? Think about Church on the weekends. If you just lost to some area in your life, then you come in and repent. If you won some battle, then you come and rejoice!! We are talking about living in God’s presence. 3 things 1)   Worship brings God’s presence in our lives. a.   I S    am 18:14 “ God was with him.” David was a worshipper b.   When we go out, we don’t go out from the presence of God, we go out WITH the presence of God!! c.    If you don’t come in to the presence of God, you don’t have anything that you go out with!! d.   You want God’s presence to go with you, no matter what your job is, no matter where you go!! e.   The last words of Jesus were not “Go”, They were, “stay!!! Stay until you are endued with power, because if you go, before you stay, you have nothing to go with! f.     This isn’t something we just do on the weekends, this is something we do every day, every morning. g.   Too many times when we leave the Church we get it in our mind that we left God in the building. But we did not!!  He wants us to take Him with us. 2)   Worship brings God’s fear in our lives. a.   I Samuel 18:12 “ Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul.  SAUL WAS AFRAID OF DAVID b.   God had left Saul, and an evil spirit had come on Saul. c.    God was on David, and an evil spirit was on Saul.                                          i.     It was the evil spirit that was afraid of David                                        ii.     It was the evil spirit that was afraid of God Think about walking around, with Jesus right there with you! When you spend time in the morning with God, you invite God’s presence to be with you for the rest of the day AND THE FEAR OF THE LORD INTIMIDATES EVERY DEMON THAT TRIES TO COME AGAINST YOU, BECAUSE GOD IS RIGHT THEIR WITH YOU!! 3)   Worship brings God’s wisdom with you a.   I Samuel 18:14 “ And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with Him.” b.   Why was Solomon wise? Because he asked God to teach him what his father knew. c.    Solomon learned how to go in and go out just like his father, David did. d.   He gained wisdom by living in the presence of God. e.   Solomon was the wisest and wealthiest man in his time f.     II Chronicles 9:1-4 “Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with hard questions, having a very great retinue, camels that bore spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. 2 So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for Solomon that he could not explain it to her. 3 And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 4 the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers and their apparel, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.” g.   The Queen of Sheeba was reported to be the wisest and wealthiest person alive.                                          i.     People from her land worshipped wisdom and wealth and she came to prove that she was number 1. h.   But she was dumbfounded by Solomon’s Wisdom and wealth. i.      What Got her was when she saw Solomn’s entryway to the house of the Lord. j.      What she saw in Solomon’s life was the presence of god   Ezekiel 46:9 “9 “But when the people of the land come before the Lord on the appointed feast days, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate; and whoever enters by way of the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate. He shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but shall go out through the opposite gate.” Every time you come into my presence, you will leave differently than how you came in                                          i.     If you come in to worship, you will go out differently Holy Spirit, what are you saying to me through this message?

I grew up in church hearing this said and even saying it myself. It wasn't until I studied that I truly understood its meaning.
