After the Apostle John's Holy Spirit directed explanation of how we are to love our brothers and sisters in Christ and the spiritual “pep talk” of 1 John 2:12-14 we now come to a passage that presents the first direct command of the epistle. Here we will see that while much of 1 John speaks about love it will also instruct us as to what a true Christian is not to love.
