Violet Christie is just 18 years old as she heads towards her first position as a governess. She tries to be enthusiastic about the Norfolk countryside, the imposing house and her employer's family. However, there are mysteries here. The mistress of the house is detached and aloof, but that can be explained by grief and depression. Violet overhears a village girl warning her companion “you should not have spoken to her. Don’t you know she comes from the house on the marsh?” And what of Mr. Rayner? He is definitely hiding something!
The House on the Marsh was made into a silent movie in 1920. - Summary by LynneT (9 hr 57 min)

Whew, this main character is frustratingly naive and dense. But then, I wasn't so very wise myself at 18, come to think of it. Not my favorite book by any stretch, but it helped me get some chores done.

not well structured, but well read
