Above Life's Turmoil

Read by Andrea Fiore

(4.7 stars; 126 reviews)

The turmoil of the world we cannot avoid, but the disturbances of mind we can overcome. The duties and difficulties of life claim our attention, but we can rise above all anxiety concerning them. Surrounded by noise, we can yet have a quiet mind; involved in responsibilities, the heart can be at rest; in the midst of strife, we can know the abiding peace. The twenty pieces which comprise this book, unrelated as some of them are in the letter, will be found to be harmonious in the spirit, in that they point the reader towards those heights of self-knowledge and self-conquest which, rising above the turbulence of the world, lift their peaks where the Heavenly Silence reigns. James Allen was one of the true thinkers of our time. His teachings and inquiry of life profound. That being said, I find the reader, Ms. Fiore, painfully unpleasant to listen to. A challenging task indeed as I find myself drifting due to the relentless monotony of her tone and ruthlessly bland delivery. A classic book somewhat brought down by the gracious volunteer. Apologies for the cynicism.

Makes one take a thoughtful look inside themselves. Opens up one to the deeper meaning and understanding of how our own thoughts, feelings etc. can control our lives and how we can change and control them for a more peaceful life. I needed very much to listen to this to bring me back to where I needed to be. I will listen to it again,
