The Magic World
Talking cats, birds, fish and bells, wicked fairies, uglified princesses - adventure, magic, and more magic. A delightful collection of stories for children of all ages.
The Magic World is an influential collection of twelve short stories by E. Nesbit. It was first published in book form in 1912 by Macmillan and Co. Ltd., with illustrations by H. R. Millar and Gerald Spencer Pryse. The stories, previously printed in magazines (like Blackie's Children's Annual), are typical of Nesbit's arch, ironic, clever fantasies for children. Great author and the reader does a magnificent job of bringing the characters to life.
Charming tales professionally read/acted
These tales are a mix of traditional fairy tale archetypes with modern (contemporaneous, of course) characters and settings. Touches of humor add irreverence to the otherwise stately tales. The reader must be a professional actress. The characters were consistent, charming and all words were clearly annunciated. Fun, latter-day fairy tales.
Just odd enough
Great bedtime stories for the kids, but I enjoyed listening to them, myself. Ruth's work is superb, as usual.
Great book of short stories, great reading preformance
