(3.7 stars; 15 reviews)

In the six volumes of the Library of the World's Best Mystery and Detective Stories, Julian Hawthorne presents us thrilling and mysterious short stories from all corners of the world. Some of the stories appeared in this collection for the first time translated into English, and many of them come from unexpected sources, such as the letters of Pliny the Younger, or a Tibetan manuscript. In the first volume, we find stories written by American authors. (Summary by Leni)

Fell short of my hopes

(3 stars)

This collection fell short of my expectations. This volume focused on American authors of detective and mystery stories, but the stories in most cases were just strange or eerie, with a few obvious exceptions. However, if you're looking for actual "detective" stories, this is not the volume for you. I'm going to try further volumes (there are six total), which focus on authors from different parts of the world. Hopefully the editor will stumble upon some actual mystery and detective stories.
