The Children of Odin

(4.7 stars; 614 reviews)

Master storyteller Padraic Colum's rich, musical voice captures all the magic and majesty of the Norse sagas in his retellings of the adventures of the gods and goddesses who lived in the Northern paradise of Asgard before the dawn of history. Here are the matchless tales of All-Father Odin, who crosses the Rainbow Bridge to walk among men in Midgard and sacrifices his right eye to drink from the Well of Wisdom; of Thor, whose mighty hammer defends Asgard; of Loki, whose mischievous cunning leads him to treachery against the gods; of giants, dragons, dwarfs and Valkyries; and of the terrible last battle that destroyed their world. excellent rendition

I think Elizabeth Klett is a great reader, so I randomly picked this out. I wasn't disappointed. The stories are all based on the oral traditions of story telling, so they're perfect in an audio book context.

As believing in the Norse mythology myself it is great to see a book that will tell me more about it,and also to remind people that the Norse mythology is not what is in the movie Thor.

Very nice, respectful reading of these tales. My only note would be name mispronunciations - at least she's consistent. I know the Old Norse forms of the words, so I realize I am picky, but the author's name is also mispronounced. Otherwise terrific reading!

Absolutely Riveting

(5 stars)

The book is beautifully crafted - each story written in such a way that in the end all the parts meet and fit perfectly with each other. Elizabeth Klett's narration was fantastic, as always. She ensured to speak slowly for the readers to keep up with the difficult names and terms. Her impeccable diction and accent makes it a wonderful read. The awe inspiring myths are sure to grasp your attention and never let go.

A great book read with great flair and clarity. My son and I heard it together over numerous lunches and couldn't wait for next day. I will be picking this reader again for sure.

Great book and reader

As someone who grew up with these stories as my inheritance, this was great! The reader did very well, although most of the names were mispronounced but I don't expect anyone to be able to completely but she was very consistent in her pronunciation so you never get confused about what she is talking about in such a complex saga. So very well done by the reader.

read wonderfully and even. he makes entertaining versions out of what can be notoriously confusing Norse mythology. I love this book. it didn't give all the myths but covers a broad range, good for adults. thank you thank you to all involved. great book

great stories, but the reader makes me fall asleep.. sometimes it takes me a few tries to get through a story without dozing off. I wish she would read with more enthusiasm, but on the other hand, it really helps me sleep at night!
