The Children of Odin

(4.7 stars; 426 reviews)

Master storyteller Padraic Colum's rich, musical voice captures all the magic and majesty of the Norse sagas in his retellings of the adventures of the gods and goddesses who lived in the Northern paradise of Asgard before the dawn of history. Here are the matchless tales of All-Father Odin, who crosses the Rainbow Bridge to walk among men in Midgard and sacrifices his right eye to drink from the Well of Wisdom; of Thor, whose mighty hammer defends Asgard; of Loki, whose mischievous cunning leads him to treachery against the gods; of giants, dragons, dwarfs and Valkyries; and of the terrible last battle that destroyed their world. excellent rendition

I think Elizabeth Klett is a great reader, so I randomly picked this out. I wasn't disappointed. The stories are all based on the oral traditions of story telling, so they're perfect in an audio book context.

As believing in the Norse mythology myself it is great to see a book that will tell me more about it,and also to remind people that the Norse mythology is not what is in the movie Thor.

Very nice, respectful reading of these tales. My only note would be name mispronunciations - at least she's consistent. I know the Old Norse forms of the words, so I realize I am picky, but the author's name is also mispronounced. Otherwise terrific reading!

I really enjoyed this book. I've never read very much Norse mythology, so I found it fascinating. It's interesting to learn the inspirations and origins of popular stories and fairytales of today.

Awesome!

Very curious to see how the concept of justice and goodness has been with us over centuries, kept in tales and passed on from generation to generation.

read wonderfully and even. he makes entertaining versions out of what can be notoriously confusing Norse mythology. I love this book. it didn't give all the myths but covers a broad range, good for adults. thank you thank you to all involved. great book

great stories, but the reader makes me fall asleep.. sometimes it takes me a few tries to get through a story without dozing off. I wish she would read with more enthusiasm, but on the other hand, it really helps me sleep at night!
