His Family

The 1910s is historically considered the decade of greatest social change in history. It saw the advent and proliferation of the automobile, electricity, lighting, radio, telephone and cinema. Our present time of change is actually quite tame in comparison, though also breathless. His Family is a tale of a widowed father, working to manage this decade of change as it affects his family in New York City. His Family was the first winner of the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1919. (Summary by JCarson) (10 hr 31 min)

What a great story of trails and tribulations. Very moving and perfect narrator for this book.

The characters are developed well, even though the dialogue and may at times be trite. The reader i's pacing and a voice captures the mind and thoughts all of a widower who has the challenge of parenting into adulthood three women who are distinctively different , each reflecting the choices and the results of those choices for the women of that era.

Beautifully written, peaceful ending, true classic. I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the variety of life in mid 1910's. I will return to this work many times, & explore other books by this author.

A story of family relations with ups and downs that is the same today as it was in the times of this novel’s period.

Beautiful

The most lovely portrayal of family that, perhaps, I have ever read. Touching, thoughtful and personal at every turn. Greatly read as well.
