(4.5 stars; 323 reviews)

David "Davy" Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was a celebrated 19th century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet “King of the Wild Frontier.” He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo. This narrative attempts faithfully to record the influences under which David Crockett was reared and the incidents of his wild and wondrous life. It begins with his ancestors' immigration to the American wilderness, his adventures among the Indians, his political career in Tennessee and beyond, and ending with his heroic stand at the Alamo. What a fun book to listen to! I might be a little bias but this was a great book. Davey Crockett is a true hero in the eyes of real Texans and it was fun to listen to an account of his life.

What a great representative of an emerging democracy.

Wonderfully written to include the actual words and phrases David Crockett used. I only wish I could have heard the stories and antidotes that could not be related. The final scene at the tree with a fight to the death happily of the cougar and the Comanche Chief and his warriors generous and lovely spirit so amazingly depicted. I will keep the plains and the scene in memory of The Great Hunter.

I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this. It was the only book I had d…

I downloaded this before I left commercial fishing in Alaska. Every night I listened to a chapter on my bunk but eventually I ended up listening to the book repeatedly. It was the perfect escape from the stress and the reader is one of my favorites. Thank you!
