When a group of Russian anarchists kidnap a Russian prince in Vienna there are repercussions. On learning that the Cardinal d'Orsay has agreed to convey some hollow candlesticks from the Emperor to the Princess Marionoff in St Petersburg, two spies both see the possibility of using them to convey messages safely into Russia. One is an eager young idealist involved in the plot against the prince, the other is Madame Demidoff, a beautiful agent of the Tsar. When the candlesticks go missing at the border, the two engage in a race to get them back, both realizing that their very lives could depend on the retrieval. (Summary by Wikipedia) (4 hr 47 min)

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was well paced and very amusing with an entirely unexpected outcome. The reader was brilliant and absolutely deserves a 5 star review.

Humorous Tale

(5 stars)

A humorous tale of danger and Intrigue ending with the happiness of our heroine and our villain as only Baroness Orczy could have told it.

Kevin Greene did a wonderful job

(5 stars)

Kevin has done a wonderful job bringing to life each character in their own light. If you like twist and turns to keep your heart Rate up at times. This is my 1st time listening to Kevin and my 1st time with this author. I enjoyed this bookvery much!

Well Written, Well Read

(5 stars)

This reader did an excellent job presenting unique and consistent voices for each character in this fun yet suspenseful mystery. I love being able to listen to, rather than read myself, books like Orczy's with many foreign names.

Nail biting Narrative!

(4 stars)

Well done, Kevin Green! One comment, though, which is the common mispronounciatuon of the Russian name, Ivan. Many Brits, including Kenneth Branaugh, say "ee-van" instead of "ee-von" as in the woman's name Yvonne.

This is a fast-paced story filled with twists and turns. Thanks to Librivox and its many talented readers, I am now a great fan of Baroness Orczy.
