(4.6 stars; 92 reviews)

Havoc occurs when European countries are discussing covert alliances. The story revolves around the creation of a secret alliance between Germany, Russia, and Austria. The English hope to split Russia away by holding the Czar to his previous public commitments, but they need proof of what was done to create the pressure. All the pressures that lead to WWI are there, but the intrigues and secret treaties create an interesting background to the twists and turns of the plot. (Summary by Tom Weiss) (8 hr 35 min)

Couldn’t Stop Listening!

(5 stars)

An incredibly intricate tale of intrigue, murder, politics, and two romances by Oppenheim. You can tell this man knew how to write, and how to develop characters/plots. One of the things I loved about this book were the different, distinct, groups of characters that were brought together. I loved how one chapter would tell what one group was doing, and another chapter would skip over to the other group. And how they all then intersected with the amazing chain of events that were happening. This is a nice fast-paced book that I don’t think anyone would be bored with. I recommended it to my husband because I think he would enjoy it too.

A MORE INCISIVE OPPENHEIM

You will enjoy the many twists in this one. This presents the author in his finest characterization. We are better acquainted with the actors than in any of his other novels. And the narration by Tom Weiss is always great.

Love & Politics

Loved this book, an intrigue and a finely knit story. Not in the least drag or boring. It is well knit story of intrigue and circumstances.

Fast paced, interesting subject and believable characters. Exceptionally well read. If every Libre Vox book offered as talented readers as this one, my tablet would never be off
