The Hound of the Baskervilles

Read by Laurie Anne Walden

(4.6 stars; 515 reviews)

What really killed Sir Charles Baskerville? Is his nephew, Sir Henry, in danger from the legendary family curse, a gigantic black hound? Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on the case in this classic mystery, set on lonely Dartmoor in Devonshire. Neolithic ruins, a perilous quagmire, eerie sounds in the night, and (of course) fog all add to the fun, with an escaped convict thrown in for good measure. (Summary by Laurie Anne Walden)

great reading, different accent

(4 stars)

loved the reading! th only reason for a less than 5 star rating was the accent of the narrator. I live in North Carolina and my husband's Southern accent seemed to be reflected in some inflections - other can't be helped but I was expecting a British accent, it took me away from the pure narrative. wonderful reading, no faltering,

Great story enthusiastically read

(5 stars)

Among Conan Doyle's finest works. Narrator reads very well, briskly and clearly with her American accent. Narration actually grew on me as the story progressed. Unlike some Librivox readers she obviously knows and understands the book and intones appropriately.

a wonderful book and beautifuly read!!

(5 stars)

i have come to love all the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. and more especially All the adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Great book and well read

(4 stars)

Thanks to librivox for the opportunity to listen to many books for free and big thanks to reader, she's a good in tone of reading, impressions of situation and clear American accent. Well done and keep up the good works

Excellent reading only missing character voices

(4 stars)

This was my 3rd audio book and the first read by a woman. I thought the reader read at a brisk pace that was perfect. The story is great and not too long. I gave 4 stars and not five as the other two readers had done character voices when reading which I thought was outstanding

(4 stars)

An excellent story. Dark, atmospheric and dramatic. It was well read and could only have been improved upon in my opinion by instead being read by an English male.

(5 stars)

A British accent would have added some authenticity, but the reader did a great job! I read this story many years ago, but I loved to have it read to me! Bravo! RR

the hound of the baskervilles

(4 stars)

a fantastic story with, as is common to sherlock holmes titles, many great twists and a wonderful summary at the end. the reader was excellent but lacked emotion and differing character voices.
