The third book in the Marcia Schuyler/Miranda trilogy, this story focuses on the irrepressible Miranda Griscom. She has repeatedly rejected a wealthy suitor's proposals of marriage. The townsfolk are puzzled: why would she give up such a chance? But "jest plain, hombly, turn-upnose, freckle-faced, red-haired M'randy Griscom" has a long-secret love for a man who was accused of murder, whose escape she orchestrated. The story is good but please, dear reader, take the sing song out of your voice. Practice making your reading sound like your natural talking. Some words are naturally stressed or they're spoken louder, or softer. And the end of a sentence, pause. Listen to other readers, the good ones, and you'll hear what I mean. It's a lot of work to record a book; make it a worthy effort. Thanks, and I hope you will take this criticism as constructive. I appreciate your efforts.

I absolutely LOVED this book! The whole trilogy is great, but 'Miranda' has it all: fun, intrigue, warmth, travel, love, and Miranda's own quaint turn of phrase! A unique heroine!

wonderful ending

This was a great trilogy and a nice ending to the Miranda books.

Same complaint as always...

THE SERIES ENDED!!!! ARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!! thank you Tricia G for lovingly reading some of my favorite works. had i not heard you read a favorite book, then checked into other books you had read, i would not have realized how much i love GLH. thank you for being a discerning reader. it appears that if you are raging it, i will like the book :-) The series is one of my favorites as it occurs at the beginning of the industrial revolution when all our common place things sound like science fiction. ie telegraph, steam engine, trains, mail and travel... It's a JOY to live with the characters.

worth the wait!

The first 2 books in this series are filled with hateful and vindictive characters persecuting victimized women. As a reward for making it through them (or if you just want to skip to the good part!) this book presents a strong and admirable female protagonist, who determines to be happy and useful despite difficult circumstances and loneliness. This book is a real pleasure to listen to. It touches on many historical, religious and political issues while including romance, mystery, humor and adventure!

a mildly mildly interesting read

the story is rather interesting, but at times a bit slow and redundant. the reader does a good job and is consistent. the readers voice inflection took me a little while to get used to, but then it was okay.

Excellent

I am so thankful that you read this. I tried reading it online but missed details and some of the humor. Thanks Librivox and Tricia G for a very enjoyable experience!
