Carpenter's Geographical Reader: South America

Gelesen von LibriVox Volunteers

(4,808 Sterne; 13 Bewertungen)

In this book the children are taken by the author upon a personally conducted tour through the most characteristic parts of the South American continent. The book will, it is believed, aid in putting flesh and blood on the bones of the geographies, and will give a living interest to geographical study. (from the Preface) (7 hr 56 min)

So fascinating!

(5 Sterne)

I highly recommend seeking out all of the books in this series, despite being over a hundred years old, the series remains informative and fun. Not just geography is covered, but also politics, culture, costume, diet, rituals, food production and manufacture, crops, mining, exports, local laws, etc - making this a wonderful piece of early ethnogeography. The reader is fantastic - so much so that I have purposely sought out other Betsy B recordings, as she has such a lovely voice and great reading manner. Some of the 'facts' may be of dubious origin (did Equadorian donkeys really wear trousers?), and some of the language is outdated, but this book remains a joy to listen to
