well read story

(3,5 Sterne)

The story is of its time, no huge mystery but lots of period charm and an attractive pair of lead characters. I am baffled by the previous comment about the narration, which I personally found one of the best I've listened to on Librivox. I'd definitely say give this story a go.

great reader, good suspense

The real mystery in this book was not "whodunit" but when the narrator would finally catch on. Still, it was an entertaining book and the reader's voice was expressive yet soothing.

worth listening to

(4 Sterne)

A bit like a Sherlock Holmes story - exploits of a super sleuth as told by his friend. Reader’s style is distracting. It’s over the top dramatic with an odd cadence ,.

Entertaining, engaging mystery

(4 Sterne)

A nice mystery with some interesting twists. Not stellar but good fun. Pretty good twists. A little overwrought at times, perhaps, but that was a popular style.

A very good & enjoyable whodunnit

And very well read by a reader who seemed also to thoroughly enjoy reading the story.

Pretty good

Guessed the solution, but not at all a bad story, and enjoyed listening to itReader is very good.

Clever and bizarre mystery.

Worth reading. Kept me guessing. No depth of characters' personalities like Wilke Collins.

Important American author for historic purposes

Much more of his work needs to be in audio form.
