In its original form, this book was published with the title, "The Singing Bone." It was later republished as "The Adventures of Dr. Thorndyke." This book has historical significance as it contains the first example of the inverted detective formula used in The Case of Oskar Brodski (originally published in Pearson's Magazine in 1912), along with several other examples. Top Notch Mysteries

(4,5 Sterne)

Very entertaining stories and well read. Many are "inverted mysteries"; the story begins with the commission of the crime. Thorndike and Jervis enter the narrative later. Thorndike is a forensic scientist when that practition was rare. Much of the fun is watching him extract evidence from unrelated clues.

Great performance!

(5 Sterne)

Great performance by reader! He brings the short stories alive with different voices, accents and cadence. I want to hear more from him!

Great detective stories!

(5 Sterne)

The way that the stories are presented, with the story of the crime being told first, is very unique and interesting!

(4 Sterne)

Love the reader's voices but he does sometimes read in a choppy way with pauses in the middle of a sentence.

(5 Sterne)

Terrific stories (a bit graphic at times so not for the young reader) that are very well-read.

Excellent Stories

(5 Sterne)

Well written and well read.
