The Great Gatsby
Gelesen von Kara Shallenberg
F. Scott Fitzgerald

Set in 1925, this is a novel of the Jazz Age; of ambition, of the careless rich, of wild parties and flappers and bootleg booze; and the efforts of a dreamer to reunite with his lost love. - Summary by Kara (5 hr 38 min)

I couldn't get past her pronunciation of "h-wat" or "h-wen" or "h-were". It was distracting the whole way through.

Really enjoyed F Sott’s word craft. I wish more writers would adopt his style
Wonderful!

I'm so glad I finally gave my time and attention to a book I was supposed to read back in high school! Kara Shallenberg is an excellent reader with perfect pacing and diction. It was a treat to listen on my commute, and I look forward to listening to more of Kara's recordings. 😊 The reason I dinged it down to 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because the casual racism and eugenics mentioned throughout really took me out of the story. Obviously you're taking a risk of experiencing any number of offensive views/statements/characters/descriptions/etc. when you pick up a Classic™, but I think it's still valid to critique those views/statement/characters/descriptions/etc.

The book takes a dark turn after some chapters devoted to mysticising the idea of Jay Gatsby and bringing forth the exuberance of the 1920s. It was a wild journey into the abysses of the American mindset, helped by the choice of narrator. The fact that the story is told from an outside perspective allows the reader to catch up to the main characters and figure out what is going on alongside Nick – it makes for a more interesting engagement with the text. In the whole, it is a great book, and I am looking forward to reading more of Fitzgerald.
Great narration, good writing, decent story

Great job reading this! Very well done. However, I was not impressed with the book at all. I'm honestly shocked it's so highly recommend. The writing was good, but to me, the story did not have any true depth or wisdom. If I was rating only the book I would give it two stars.

A most sensitive and intelligent reading by Kara. True to the mood and tone of the text itself. Recommended — Kenneth in London UK

The narration is terrific, and the book itself more than earns its consideration as one of the greatest American novels.
