Talking cats, birds, fish and bells, wicked fairies, uglified princesses - adventure, magic, and more magic. A delightful collection of stories for children of all ages.

The Magic World is an influential collection of twelve short stories by E. Nesbit. It was first published in book form in 1912 by Macmillan and Co. Ltd., with illustrations by H. R. Millar and Gerald Spencer Pryse. The stories, previously printed in magazines (like Blackie's Children's Annual), are typical of Nesbit's arch, ironic, clever fantasies for children. Just odd enough

Great bedtime stories for the kids, but I enjoyed listening to them, myself. Ruth's work is superb, as usual.

Charming tales professionally read/acted

(4,5 Sterne)

These tales are a mix of traditional fairy tale archetypes with modern (contemporaneous, of course) characters and settings. Touches of humor add irreverence to the otherwise stately tales. The reader must be a professional actress. The characters were consistent, charming and all words were clearly annunciated. Fun, latter-day fairy tales.

delightful

Children should love theses stories, The reader was excellent, if one is studying children ‘s lit, this selection should make the list.

E. Nesbit truly brings forth Magic. Ruth Golding is the best narrator ever, even including those I listen to on Audible.

Superior stories for the child within

Great author and the reader does a magnificent job of bringing the characters to life.

Great book of short stories, great reading preformance

(5 Sterne)

Edith Nesbit had a great imagination. Her fantasy stories are full of magic that appear in day-to-day situations. Sure to enchant children and make they dream it can happen to them too. From becoming a cat (in The Cat-hood of Maurice), finding a spy-glass that make make everything bigger (in The Mixed-Mine), the princess that gets the help of a hedge-pig in recovering her kingdom (The Princess and the Hedge-pig), a glass cat that saves a boy's home (in The White Cat), to other tales in this book, there are stories for both boys and girls. A timeless classic. The reader (Ruth Golding) performance is as good as professional recordings created in a studio (no background noises and her reading is flawless). She has many fun voices and a few special effects that brings the stories to life.

one of my favorite books!
