The Fifth Book of the Faerie Queene contayning the Legende of Artegall or of Ivstice. This masterpiece was never completed, but it continues to be one of the most beautiful and important works of literature ever written. Spenser wrote it as a paean to the Virgin Queen Elizabeth, and to the golden age which he believed she had brought to England. Sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh and commended by the foremost literary minds of his day, Spenser's book remains one of the crowning poetic achievements of the Elizabethan period. (5 hr 29 min)

One of the best books of the 2008 LibriVox version

(4 Sterne)

Sincere thanks are due to all the intrepid readers of the 2008 LibriVox "Faerie Queene," and that certainly goes for the mainstays of the project, Morgan Scorpion and Alan Brown. For Book 5, however, they were joined by three much more rarely heard, but to my mind even more capable, narrators: Jhiu, Carolyn Power, and--one of the very best readers to contribute to the project--Brian Keith Barnes. Book 5 is almost everybody's least favorite book of "The Faerie Queene," but it is very well served here. Along with Book I, this is the best the 2008 LibriVox "Faerie Queene" has to offer. It is still worth listening to even in the wake of Thomas A. Copeland's wonderful 2014 recording for LibriVox of the entire poem.
