This book is enjoyable especially for the variable personalities of the characters, and their relationships to each other. The sisters remind me a lot of the book mentioned in the title of the review. One is more common sensible, the other is more artistic and romantic. Speaking of romance, if you’re not into that, this book “interest you much. As a guy it was a little too much of it for me, but the story was good enough to carry me through it. Our narrator read it very well and I owe her a great deal of thanks for the many hours of pleasant listening in this book and others that she has generously narrated!

I love Trollope and I'm not sure why this novel is considered funny. Very few likable characters, an unlikely hero in Sir Tringle (as far as I'm concerned), and a detailed description of immature, idealistic, annoying youth. I suppose it is good to know that young people have always been idiots, even in idealized times past. Ok-I wrote this 2/3 of the way through the book. I take it back, it is funny. But holy smoke, most of the characters are not people you'd want to live with!

Beautifully read - many thanks to the reader. The novel itself has Trollope's usual wry perceptiveness of human nature but the social comment seems lacking and his attitude, especially to the role of middle class women in his world, seems to me to be more conservative than elsewhere. But the book has a grand, long, multistranded plot as usual and was a pleasure to listen to.

The most delightful Trollope I’ve encountered thus far, and that’s saying something. You may find, as I did at first, that Ayala’s infernal search for her angel of light is maddening, but her ultimate and perfect choice puts all to rights and he truly is the best of men. The reader is perfect, with just the right Victorian sensibility. Thanks so much for this.

this is a true romance sort of story with lots of different girls walking through the maze of young womanhood, seeking the perfect mate for them. Trollope, therefore many well drawn characters and the usual struggle of the pecunious with the super rich. No surprises in the plot. The reader is beyond excellent !

Trollope can make a compelling story out of anything. As noted by other listeners, his characters run the gamut in this one. Add to that the perfect narration and we have another winner. A final observation: you have to love Sir Tom Triangle. that man of very entertaining acerbic speech!

The narrator's voice gave a perfect nuance and believability to each character in this very enjoyable book. Of course, Anthony Trollope wrote so well and weaves a tale of sacrifice, love and the lessons of moral courage in each chapter. Well read and Anthony Trollope...what more could one ask!
