The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (published 1876) is a very well-known and popular story concerning American youth. Mark Twain's lively tale of the scrapes and adventures of boyhood is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, where Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn have the kinds of adventures many boys can imagine: racing bugs during class, impressing girls, especially Becky Thatcher, with fights and stunts in the schoolyard, getting lost in a cave, and playing pirates on the Mississippi River.

One of the most famous incidents in the book describes how Tom persuades his friends to do a boring, hateful chore for him: whitewashing (i.e., painting) a fence.

This was the first novel to be written on a typewriter.

Now officially my favourite book!

(5 Sterne)

A charming book which captures the tendencies and thought processes of youth with wonderful honest wit. I must say I probably wouldn't have enjoyed listening to this half as much if the reader hadn't been so excellent. Humour expressed perfectly in all the right places which caused my husband and I to laugh out loud! No doubt I will listen to this again!

Great narrator

(5 Sterne)

I listen to a lot of audio books but this was my first Librivox experience. I really enjoyed it, the narrator did a fabulous job and the recording was enjoyable and easy to listen to.

a re-exploration

(5 Sterne)

This classic must be re-explored as an adult as it is so much more than the book we all read when young. John Greenman reads the text with such enthusiasm and voice as to make the listener believe he is hearing Mark Twain himself telling the story.

(5 Sterne)

I would rate this a ten if presented a little bit slower. The pace was a little fast for me, and this is the kind of work that one likes to savor every word.

(4,5 Sterne)

This book is really funny and real. I've read tons of books that take place in this time period and none of them are as good as this one.

The Voice of Mark Twain Himself!

(5 Sterne)

Wow! This guy is Amazing! A family member and I are of the opinion that this dude is Mark Twain himself! Just listen to how he reads Mark Twain's stories and you'll see what I'm talking about! Thank you to everyone who had anything to do with this production. In case you can't tell from my copious use of exclamation marks, this is an experience that fondly stays with you even months after listening to it. It is remarkable how well Mark Twain succeeds in bringing his works to life with LibriVox! ;-)

Good Story Well narrated

(4,5 Sterne)

I had never read Tom Sawyer but decided to have a listen as I remembered that my father loved this novel by Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a loveable character, Who demonstrates courage good humor, and just the right amount of naughtiness. I love the adventurous spirit portrayed by the main characters, Huckleberry Finn, Becky Thatcher, and Tom Sawyer; children in an era where children ran free.

(4 Sterne)

The narrator is amazing, he gives life and personality to every character in the book, he brings Tom Sawyer to life in anyone's imagination everytime he reads his words. The book itself made me have fun, it made me feel like I had the adventures the boys had, like I was a friend that ran alongside them. Really fun and light-hearted, it will make you feel like a kid.
