This murder mystery, written in 1903 by Richard Dallas (pseudonym), describes a fictional crime that took place in the New York City of 1883. A fine period piece as well as a clever detective story. (Introduction by Delmar H. Dolbier) (4 hr 55 min)

A man is murdered, and a man considered a ne'er do well is accused of the murder. The prosecutor in the case is familiar with both men and does not believe that the accused is guilty. Rather than prosecute a man he believes is innocent, he recuses himself and goes to work for the defense. His plan of action is simple: dig into the past of the victim and find out who else had a motive. A wee bit predictable, but still a very good story. Reading was good.

Extremely well read by Delmar. Very good murder mystery, like all good murder mystery there are lots of twists and turns. My second listen because I missed some details the first go round.

Dolbeir us a good reader. The trial a bit contrived, however, it leads to a surprise ending.
Recommended legal thriller
