Book 1 - Anne Boleyn. The focus of the novels is on the events surrounding Henry VIII's replacing Catherine of Aragon with Anne Boleyn as his wife. During Henry's pursuit of Boleyn, the novel describes other couples, including the Earl of Surrey and Lady Elizabeth Fitzgerald, a match Henry does not support. However, some of the individuals oppose Henry and his desires for Boleyn, including Thomas Wyat who wants her for himself and Cardinal Wolsey, who uses a maiden of mysterious birth, Mabel Lyndwood, to lure Henry away from Boleyn. [...] Intertwined with the Court is the story of Herne the Hunter, a spirit of Windsor Forest. He is an evil force that seeks to take the souls of various individuals, and Henry tries to stop him, but is never able to do so. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia)

Review for the Series

(3 Sterne)

I'm putting one review in for all of books 1-6. They're okay. It's historical fiction; taking real historical figures and adding some life to them in their historical context. In that way it was a good story. However, inextricably mingled within the whole series is the Hearne the Hunter character, who is this supernatural being who diabolically aids or hinders people, for his own ends. I didn't care for this facet of the story; I was looking for more straight historical fiction than a supernatural/gothic version. Book 3 is not story at all; it's a history of Windsor Castle itself - which king built which tower, the architectural styles, etc. I skipped 3 of the 5 chapters. The readers were typical group project readers; some were exceptional, some were not very good, most were average. None of them were horrible. :)

mostly good

I love Tudor history so I liked the book. I very much admire the readers, some of whom English is their second language. But one chapter I simply had to skip as I could not understand the reader.

Thank you!
