The Shrieking Pit is one of Arthur Rees's earlier works, and is a good old fashioned murder mystery story. Grant Colwyn, a private detective, is holidaying in East Anglia when he notices a young man at a nearby table behaving peculiarly. The young man later leaves the hotel without paying his bill, and turns up in a nearby hamlet in the Norfolk marshes where he takes lodgings at the village inn. The next day, another guest at the inn is found dead, and the young man is missing. Can Colwyn sort out the mystery and prove the young man's innocence one way or the the other? A very enjoyable whodunnit with many red herrings. The narrator Kevin Green gives an excellent well paced rendition which results in a beautifully relaxing audio experience.

Good one!

Normally I have trouble following an extremely detailed mystery like this one, but the author does a great job of making everything clear, repeating the points until he drove them home, and keeping the listener/reader in the loop. It is very well narrated, and a riveting story that keeps you guessing until the end. Speaking of the end, that was my only complaint. It ends very abruptly. Everything is spelled out, but it leaves you feeling like the story just comes to a screeching halt. But don’t let that deter you from listening. It is definitely a worthwhile adventure!

Mr. Kevin Green is Marvelous!

(5 Sterne)

Not to say the story is lacking but Kevin Green is so enjoyable that I cannot imagine The Shrieking Pit being read by anyone else. Good tale that was engaging to the end. Now I’m off to find another book read by Mr. Green.

Excellent

Very well written story, which kept my interest until the end.The reader did such a wonderful job that it brought everything to life. Well done as he is fast becoming my favourite narrator.

enjoyed it

Excellent Reader--Eric Greene

(4 Sterne)

The story itself was quite good, but Eric's ability to give each character a different voice and to quickly change between character/ voices is amazing. It makes the story much more interesting than just straightforward reading in the same voice. He even makes the females sound like real women! My only complaint is the ending. I thought I knew who it the culprit would be from early on. And I felt disappointed that the author probably knew most people would deduce the same, and so he decide towards the end to make it someone else. It felt lame to me.

WOW A MYSTERY TO THE END

THIS IS A VERYGRIPPING THRILLER, SLOW AT TIMES BUT WELL WORTH HEARING IT THROUGH. OF COURSE YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE SMARTER AND DUMBEST INVESTIGATRS NO STORY WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT BOTH .I REALLY HAD TO MAKE MYSELF TURN IT OFF TO GO TO SLEEP BUT I FINISHED IT AS SOON AS I WOKE UP. GREAT WRITING.
