James desperately needs someone to help him keep his farm going, but has failure after colossal failure finding a good housekeeper. Alida marries a man only to find out he's already married. She's so undone when she finds out that she just wants to go somewhere where no one will judge her for her misfortune, where she can work and keep herself fed and clothed. James and Alida meet and arrange for a strictly business marriage, leaving loving and honoring out of the vows. The title of the book tells the rest of the story, but the way it gets there is worth the journey. (Introduction by TriciaG) (10 hr 34 min)

A hidden treasure!

(5 Sterne)

I had never heard of this book prior to listening to it. What a beautiful hidden treasure! Such a well written story. If I had had the book in my hand, I would have clasped it to my chest and smiled as I finished the last page. Only wish the same volunteer had read the book from beginning to end. The changing voices made the story difficult to follow at times.

What a HeartWarming, Thought Provoking and Spirit Stirring Tale of Life's Trials & Eventual Triumphs Throughout The Turmoil Towards The Thrilling Tranquility of True Love❕ One of my Favorite Reads Yet 👍🏾👏🏾😏

Excellent!

At first I thought it would be a Taming of the Shrew kind of story, but the plot is cleverer and funnier. If you don't like what passes for romance novels nowadays, you can enjoy this.

This is a very enjoyable book! I couldn't stop listening to it! It had some funny scenes and some serious scenes. The readers did an excellent job as well!

Very distracting to have varied readers!!!!! I love this old book, and for this reason hung in there when it changed from Leo Smalley.

I enjoyed the story line very much. I’ll look for more books by this author.

A sweet story that no one will understand or appreciate in this century.
