Agnes Grey is the daughter of a minister, whose family comes to financial ruin. Desperate to earn money to care for herself, she takes one of the few jobs allowed to respectable women in the early Victorian era, as a governess to the children of the wealthy. In working with two different families, the Bloomfields and the Murrays, she comes to learn about the troubles that face a young woman who must try to rein in unruly, spoiled children for a living, and about the ability of wealth and status to destroy social values. After her father's death, Agnes opens a small school with her mother and finds happiness with a man who loves her for herself. (Summary by Wikipedia)

Great Dramatic Reading By A wonderful Cast

(5 Sterne)

This dramatic reading was really inspiring inasmuch as it (besides being portrayed by the cast so well) reminds me once again of the clarity and feeling the author has given to her work. I will not go on and on as I have done in most of my reviews by praising each and every actor and reader but all having done a wonderful job and I am sure the author would and probably is pleased with the way it has been done. Thank you so much--everyone who gives so freely of themselves to those of us who just listen at no cost to ourselves but to our great benefit. God bless you and God bless Librivox for this dramatic effort which was so well done.

Interesting Story

(5 Sterne)

What a terrific little story! This was my second Anne Bronte to listen to. I am impressed with her style and detail as well as her ability to intertwine both seriousness and humor with both characters with morals and those without. The readers were well presented. Only one speaks a little too quickly.

A Bronte sister with a humorous touch!

(5 Sterne)

Once again these readers have delivered a great performance. Although, many critics give poor Anne the the least praise; I enjoyed her stories most. I don’t want to spoil it for you’ll have to see why for yourself.

Another typical Anne Bronte story

(4,5 Sterne)

Readers were mostly great. A few voice choices not so much! Column not always consistent... Cute little story but wish heroine had been of stronger character. Her morals were excellent though!

(5 Sterne)

Had I lived two hundred years past I'd have fallen in love with Anne Brontë. Thank you readers for delightful reading of a story that should enlighten modern day psychologists. Sincetely, Tony Holland.

A Delightful Story

(5 Sterne)

A delightful story which is well read. Thank you to reader and LibriVox for making me acquainted with a new author whom I believe will soon become a favourite!

last sentence of the book is a great summary.

(3 Sterne)

A very nice young lady has to work for some mean people, before meeting her dream man. The end.

nice book simple story ... well read although some of the voices didn't always seem to fit the characters, I do like though !
