The Author Meets the Critics

In December 1942, the Mutual Broadcasting Network began airing a program called The Author Meets the Critics .  This was a literary roundtable discussion program in which well-known authors were placed between two critics, and spirited debate would follow.  Authors as wide-ranging as Charles Jackson, William L. Shirer, Eleanor Roosevelt, Al Capp, Arthur Miller, and John Dos Passos were invited to sit as critics praised and derided them.  The author would then defend the book. It is quite extraordinary that a program of this nature actually aired for so long on national radio.  Fortunately, there are at least 46 episodes I have been able to find.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
