The Trade of Man

I really enjoyed this play. It has a stella cast, including Carole Boyd as a neighbour, wonderful acting she conveys everything necessary through her voice. I can't imagine a visual dimension being able to add anything to her performance. Same goes for Nigel Davenport. Also, those hreat stalwarts of radio drama, John Rowe & Isobel Dean. This is far more than a detective story, a vivid sketch of a small archetypal English rural town of over - i think - 40 years ago - complete w' classical music festival - cunningly present throughout the work by an art song by Houseman,, tenor & piano, layered with in parts, .phoney, nostalgia. note: outdated -' officially' sexist - attitudes of the time within the police force. it has excellent pace, drawing tighter in the second half with a quiet, and to me reassuring, coda. please, does anyone know the tenor who bookends it. . Shameful that the BBC SO RARELY EVER CREDITED ITS MUSICAL ARTISTES IN RADIO DRAMA.
