The Lark

"The Lark" has all the charm and freshness which have made Miss Nesbit's former novels so justly popular, and yet the story ts entirely new and original. Two girls, Jane and Lucilla, are led by Jane's guardian to entertain high hopes. The fortune, however, which Jane was to have inherited, has been lost by unlucky speculations, and the two girls have to set about earning their own livings. They experience many adventures and ups and downs of fortune before they meet with the two men who ensure their happiness and prosperity. A delightful story, well worth reading. - Summary by (from 1922 back-of-book advert) (9 hr 41 min)

E. Nesbit was a delightful writer. I really enjoyed this book and the reader was excellent. Took me a little while to be comfortable with him, now I am a fan. Highly recommend this reading.

entertaining, humorous book. Good reader for the wrong book.

Reader has a nice voice and reads well but this book is not a match for his deep, dignified voice.

Adorable

Like sugar candy. Delightful story of two young cousins fresh out of school whose inheritance vanishes at the hands of their unscrupulous ward. Faced with poverty they must make a living. Their determination to support themselves in business is an endearing and funny adventure.

The Lark...by Edith Nesbit was a delight to listen to.
