The Moonstone (version 2)

Gelesen von Tony Addison

(3,946 Sterne; 37 Bewertungen)

Said to be the first detective novel ever written, it is wonderful for its blending of the intrigues of romance with the conventional sleights of hand of the mystery novel. Marvellous also for its sensitive portrayal of traditionally outsider characters - the hunchbacked girl who dies for love, the dying Jewish doctor who enables resolution of the mystery, the tricky Hindu conjurors who only seek the restoration of their sacred gem. Hilarious at times, The Moonstone is also a deeply felt example of the storyteller's art. - Summary by Tony Addison (24 hr 29 min)

Enjoyed the book. Enjoyed the reader.

Absorbing story

(5 Sterne)

I think this was recorded at too slow a speed, but that is easily remedied by increasing the speed when you listen. The plot twists, the different narrators, the surprisingly ( for that time) liberal observations on the effects of imperialism, the class system and racial discrimination, and the excellent reader (once adjusted) make this a compelling, absorbing story.

Carefully crafted mystery story

(5 Sterne)

The recording was made at too slow a speed. Adjust to your taste during the first chapter and you will be good to go. The reader’s tone and accent let you get the feel of the period and place in which the tale is set. I really liked it.

Oh dear. Lovely book awful narrator. Where is LibriVox quality control The First version of this had a brilliant narrator for then second half was incomprehensible due to accent and poor English of reader. So I looked for another version. This one is just awful. Like listening to the worst funeral service.

Narrator monotone and slow

(1 Sterne)

I absolutely love this book and decided to listed rather than re read it. This narrator is so slow and if you speed it up he still doesn't work for me. He's pretty expressionless and dull. Finding it tedious to listen to.

Great book and great reader

(5 Sterne)

To my surprise this is a very good and amusing book, I'm not fond of detective novels but find this book on a thrift store, it is really good. The reader is wonderful.

Recording speed?

(2 Sterne)

The speed of this is painfully slow, but when speedy up, the reader sounds robotic and unnatural. It is almost impossible to concentrate on the story. I only got 7 minutes in before giving up.

Great work & wonderful narrator

(5 Sterne)

I couldn’t stop listening. Such a lovely book. I love the narrator too! It takes a little bit to get used to his style but he’s really good.
