Excellent reader and book

(5 Sterne)

Kirsten Ferreri does an excellent job with this book. She knows how to interpret characters without sounding to caricaturesque and her overall delivery is superb. Sometimes she reads a bit too fast while trying to emulate the exasperation in some dialogues, but it's a great job nonetheless. As for Anna Karenina, it is a classic and it is well beyond an internet/app review. Just wish that this version had the 8 parts of the book condensed into a single recording/audiobook.

Well worth a listen

(4 Sterne)

The recording is a little rough- it skips a word a few times, and the reader suffers allergies (??) . I actually heard her wipe her nose with a tissue. Even taking these things into consideration, I recommend this audiobook highly. What the reader lacks in nasal clarity, she more than makes up for with her fun and enthusiastic reading.

I am hooked on this book!

(5 Sterne)

So descriptive but interesting descriptions about characters and their emotions! not long drawn out boring descriptions about scenery, trees, clouds, etc as some of the “greats” often do. Love Tolstoy! The girl reading is dramatic but not too dramatic - perfect.

A real classic and well read. Just slow down a little!

(4 Sterne)

Kirsten gallops through the chapters like a thoroughbred racehorse and treats commas and full stops like a hurdle I.e. getting over them as fast as possible before accelerating away again. For the first half dozen chapters this was a problem for me, particularly when characters were introduced and I had to go back over the chapter again several times. Then I made a character diagram, adding new names and links to others as the story developed. But after that I found I could keep pace with the reader a little better and she does have a clear voice. The book itself is a classic and needs no review from me, other than to say I enjoyed it.

Enjoyed it but not enough to continue to Book 2

(3 Sterne)

An enjoyable read that I’d had on my list of “must reads” for some time. I enjoyed it but I believe it was first published as a serial, so book 1 is not a complete story, only the beginning and I didn’t enjoy it enough to continue to books 2/3/4 etc. There are other novels that I want to read more. I get what some people have said about the speed of Kirsten’s reading (particularly conversations between characters) but as it can be a little “Ponderous”, after the first couple of chapters I got used to the speed and was glad of it.

Mostly good

(3 Sterne)

I am enjoying the story so far, but I can understand the reviews of others regarding the rushing of the reader. She speaks rather quickly at times and i do think the story could be benefited by a little more attention to the story, and less to the time in which she can get it all read by. Her editing skills often leave something to be desired, especially when words will literally jumble because I can only assume she chose not to simply reread the line. The recording is well enough, but I do think there was a good deal sacrificed in the name of saving time

Clear & Pleasant

(5 Sterne)

I always t assumed Tolstoy was dense and dark, but this reads like a chick flick! You'll find humor, nuance and the perfect level of detail. Entertaining, story moves at a really quick pace and is packed with a variety of well-written, well-rounded characters. The reader has a clear and pleasant voice with just the right amount of drama.

Dry yet enjoyable, like a fine wine

(4 Sterne)

It was hard to get into at first as it stated out very dryly. I think a dramatic reading would aid in comprehension of the events as it is easy to get lost if doing anything else while listening such as driving or cooking. That being said it is still enjoyable and worth listening to.
