Irene & Allan Jones

Irene Hervey and Allan Jones were movie stars, not the most famous of movie stars, but certainly familiar to most movie-goers from the 1930s through the 1950s, with some appearances beyond. Jones was also a successful singer and recording artist. Their radio program fell into the category of “Mr. and Mrs. program” and was scripted around their real lives. Their radio program began in 1945 and also included interviews with other movie and entertainment guests. The program was not always light; it could be serious. The program in the Hehn collection is from July 12, 1949 is one of those programs . The couple was on a trip through Europe, and they are in Fassberg, Germany. The Joneses are at an airstrip in Fassberg for the Berlin Airlift. T hey talk to military and other workers moving supplies from trucks to planes to aid the citizens in recovering from WW2 and the Soviet occupation. Their son was vocalist Jack Jones, popular and very successful in the 1960s through the 1980s (and famous for singing the theme to the TV series Love Boat ) . * * * These recordings are part of the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection. Mr. Hehn (1931-2020) was a pioneering collector of radio recordings when the hobby emerged in the 1960s. Digitizing his collection of reel tapes and discs is the effort of a wide range of North American volunteers, and includes assistance of some international collectors. The groups supporting this effort with their funds, time, technology and skills are the Old Time Radio Researchers and a small group of transcription disc preservationists who refer to themselves as the "The Knights of the Turning Table."

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
