Anna Katharine Green (November 11, 1846 – April 11, 1935) was an American poet and novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories (no doubt assisted by her lawyer father). (5 hr 35 min)

I'm a grateful listener!

(5 Sterne)

I too take issue with rude listeners who are so self centered and arrogant as to demean volunteer readers who give of themselves and their time. if you cannot give an appropriate and constructive review then say nothing! if you are so "cultured" and such an "aristocrat" that you think you are entitled to professional quality then use a paid service!!!

Tasteless reviews

(5 Sterne)

Very disappointed to see the lack of gratitude to readers who put time and effort into this, also putting aside any self conscious feelings in order to bring us these recordings. There's constructive criticism and then there's unnecessary insult. Secondly, the reader mentioned by name and referred to in a derogatory fashion in another review here, has since passed away. She not only put her time into reading but is also listed as a proof listener. Would hate for her family to see any entries like that. Thankfully the reader put her time into many works and appears to have made so many friends through her Librivox work that one of the first Google results for her name is a Librivox forum that reads like a book of condolences from those who held her in high esteem and to whom she was obviously more than a disembodied voice churning out chapters for their entertainment and convenience. I didn't know her and I am just a listener but I appreciate what readers do and would like to see them rewarded with respect.

good book, various readers hard to follow.

Another excellent book by Anna Catherine green. However I do have a difficult time with books that are read by various readers. It takes a while to get used to their differences in speech and some are just difficult to understand. I have enjoyed all of Anna Catherine Green's books that I have listened to but I held off on listening to the books by multiple readers till last. After enjoying this book and looking back on the readers I find that I may be understanding different dialects better now. Yes, I really enjoyed the reading by some readers very much but the ones I struggled with helped me realize the variety of dialects within the English language. And that exposure to differences in this world only broadens my views of the world and helps me grow.

Lucy

I think Lucy did a very good job!!! Just because she doesn't have an American accent doesn't mean she did a terrible job!!! She is not hard to understand. I truly appreciate her hard work along with all the other readers.

Not My Favorite from AKG

Unfortunately, some reviews only mention reader opinions but not thoughts about the story as well. I'll touch on both. Although there were a couple of twists I just wasn't that curious or surprised. I didn't figure them out. I just wasn't shocked like I usually am with AKG stories. I couldn't get very interested in the story or the characters. I wish I could figure out why & explain. Yes, it can be hard to understand English spoken with an accent but Lucy only had a light one. It was hard to understand her through my phone's speakers but fine using even just one ear bud. If your surroundings aren't quiet then use both buds & you'll do fine.

the story was pretty good and the readings were fine. my only issue was that some of the recordings were too quiet.

Enjoyable mystery!

Thanks a lot readers! :-)

2018 - part of my yearly listening. Still hope one of my favorite readers will decide to read the whole book as my brain struggles with multiple readers. If not, I will continue to listen "as is".
