Gelesen von Tom Penn
William Macharg
Five years before the story begins, a man convicted of murdering a powerful, corrupt financier escaped and disappeared. Now, five years later, another financier, an honest one, is murdered in Seattle. The famous lawyer who is his executor is attacked on the train stuck in the snow in the wilds of Montana. Who can be the attacker? Is it the odd young man the lawyer’s daughter finds irritating and intriguing? Is it the man who claims a telegram that can’t be his? Is it someone else? After another murder, some safe cracking, a burned bridge, and a suspicious manhunt, the deep insights of a blind man finally unfold the who, what, and why of this puzzling case. This is a really good suspense novel. It is a long book and I just did not want it to end. Interesting characters and interesting plot situations. The reader did an excellent job. Pleasant voice and pacing. I wish it wasn’t over!
The detail!

The first time I listened to this book, I heard a pleasant adventure/mystery novel. With each successive listen, the more details I catch that hint at the painstaking plotting and subtle character touches by MacHarg and Balmer. These authors are clearly skilled in the craft of the classic puzzle mystery. This has become a comfort listen, sometimes repeating back-to-back. The reader's voice is soothing and his pace perfect.

This is definitely one of the best mysteries I've listened to recently. I think one thing that helps deepen the suspense is the story never gives any more background info than is absolutely necessary right at the moment. So you're left hanging all the time. Who is the villain exactly?
