With a dry wit, he exposed the human failings of his subjects and what he saw as the hypocrisy at the centre of Victorian morality. Hard to believe this was written so long ago... I enjoyed this dive into the core of the woman who wore the crown for so many years and became a legend. The reader did a great job, and I will look for other readings by him. (There was one chapter that was too long for my taste, about the monuments built in Alfred's memory... but it was so minor in the overall book that I hesitate to mention it.)

While other biographies of Queen Victoria might provide more detail and benefit from more recent scholarship, none that I’m aware of can compare to Lytton Strachey‘s in its ability to bring to life Victoria and the vivid cast of characters that passed in and out of her life. This warm and often humorous account, beautifully read, had me laughing out loud more than once. I’ll be returning to this recording again and again.

On the whole, a good but dry review of the Victorian Age. The speaker did a good imitation of the male voices, but his representation of the queen sounded male. Still, it was free and appreciated!

This is a very complete and in-depth book about Queen Victoria. The reader was quite enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend this book.
