Tom Swift, that prolific youthful inventor, is engaged in trying to help the Allies win WWI. After reading newspaper accounts of the British tanks, Tom takes a sheet of paper and sets out to design a better one from scratch. And fortunately, he can throw the whole family business behind his venture.
He has two problems: First, his friends and acquaintances are questioning his patriotism because he hasn't enlisted as a rifleman for the front lines. Even his girl is worried his blood isn't true-blue. But that's because he is developing his tank in secret, and they don't know he's concentrating on winning the war the American way, with machines.
The second problem is that the German spies have penetrated the secret of what is being built in the high-security shop on the Swift property. And they will stop at nothing to steal its design - not kidnapping Tom, and not kidnapping the tank itself, complete with crew.

This book was well read by Mark Smith....one of my favourite readers but sadly, there is an annoying hum throughout which detracts somewhat from the enjoyment. If it bothers you enough try another Tom Swift book by reader Tom Weiss, also an excellent reader and no hum in the book that I chose read by him.

Tom Swift is an inventor. He has designed a tank to help the Allies win WWI. German spies are trying to steal the secrets of his tank. The books in the series are relatively short and are good stories for youths. Mark Smith 5 Stars for his reading ability!

I started on this book but noticed very quickly that there is a peculiar humming sound in the background. This probably wouldn't bother most people but it bugs me.

unfortunately a weak story and far too long. Mark Simpson does an excellent job reading, but that doesn't make the story better.

I'd heard of the Tom Swift books, but never read one. Great fun. Mark Smith's reading was perfect

Great story but the humming noise after a period of time becomes irritating. Narrator does a great job.
