Authored by Isabella M. Alden under the pen name “Pansy.” First in the Chautauqua Girls series.
Four friends - spoiled, quirky Ruth; fun-loving and mischievous Eurie; poor, independent and brainy Marion; and meek, approval-seeking Flossy - attend Chautauqua on a lark, and their lives are changed forever. (Chautauqua is an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers, preachers and specialists of the day.) grateful

Searching for a new book, I typed Chautauqua into the search bar on a lark, having spent a glorious blessed week there one summer. I was delighted when this came up. After listening to this, I’ve followed the entire series, and eventually every Pansy book on Librivox. Then I continued listening to other books TriciaG has chosen. It’s been wonderful. I have enjoyed listening to her develop as a reader. I also appreciate the clearly upgraded equipment which has improved the sound quality of the recordings. TriciaG, you are much appreciated by this listener. Thank you for your gift of sharing Jesus in this wonderful way.

Start of a marvelous series

This book and those that follow have been my constant companions for many weeks. They have greatly helped my spiritual life by showing the kind of life the is possible with Christ - even for us mortals with our many daily struggles. At first I wasn't impressed with the reader, but she really does communicate the heart of the message.

She being dead yet speaketh

I love the comfort included for Christian workers. Over and over she mentions how the 4 girls learned and grew and changed, but the teachers didn't necessarily know. "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation." That's encouraging.

I love reading books by Isabella Alden,

The characters throughout her books experience many spiritual struggles that are so relatable and have influenced me to want to be a better christian and understand how to make those key changes in my life.

Delightful Book!

Pansy has once again written a thoughtful and thought-provoking boon to encourage all Christians.
