The Leavenworth Case

Gelesen von Kirsten Ferreri

(4,605 Sterne; 363 Bewertungen)

Anna Katharine Green was one of the first female mystery writers to publish under her own name. She was never very successful as an author, but the technical excellence of her books caused several law schools to use The Leavenworth Case as a textbook in some of their classes, as an example of how misleading circumstantial evidence can be. Kept me guessing to the end

(5 Sterne)

This is the second book I've listened to by this author and I must say she is quite a powerful weaver of mysteries. This book, with its seemingly straight-forward clues, pretty convincingly frames one suspect, with another lesser suspect presenting itself in the back of your mind. Only when all is revealed at the end does all become clear. Aha! Well worth listening to, and especially so because of the fabulous job this particular Librivox volunteer does with her reading of this book.

Awesome story

(5 Sterne)

I have listened to this book 3x now, it is very good. The hero of the story finds himself in love with the person accused of the murder of her uncle, but the crime doesn't make sense. There seems to be no motive. The desire to save her makes him dig in attempt to find the truth, since his beloved will not tell him anything, but refuses to speak. The story has lots of twists and turns, and I like the reader, her voice is very soothing, and her recordings are top-notch, no background sounds or anything of that type. Definitely give this book a listen, you won't regret it.

Excellently written and read

(5 Sterne)

This was my first book by this author, but I will look for more by her. The story was well written and kept my interest throughout. The ending took me by surprise, which shows how well the story was woven. The reader did a fabulous job! Kudos all around.

Hit me out of left field

(4 Sterne)

I enjoyed the story - Kirsten Ferreri is an excellent reader and very easy to listen to. Lot of things weaving in and out here, but even so, I thought the ending came totally out of left field.

Made me an AKG fan

(5 Sterne)

I really enjoyed this story. It was one of those stories where you kept wondering who the bad guy was. Well written and kept me hooked from the start. The narration was good as well. Highly recomend.

Murder in 1878

(5 Sterne)

Ripping yarn brilliantly read. Don't see the problem of reader's gender, plus the two main protagonists are female, so a male reader would face same situation. The sensibilities of the era are fascinating also.

Excellent detective story and great narration!

(5 Sterne)

I very much enjoyed this well written detective story. The narrator did a wonderful job with her clear voice, lack of pronunciation errors, and clean recording (no background noise!). If you like detective stories, I would recommend that you listen to The Leavenworth Case. Also, I rarely give a recording 5 stars. Either the book has to be superb or the reader has to be superb for me to even consider it. In this case, both the story and the reader were so good, I felt that 4 stars would be doing them an injustice.

Excellent

Anna Katherine Green can turn a tale and leave me guessing as to the outcome. I highly recommend her. Also, the narrator did a fine job. I felt that she correctly adjusted her cadance following the first chapter. Her seamless reading enabled me to enjoy the story without distraction.
