Edward Royle is the head of a well-known chemical manufacturer in England, which he has inherited. He is engaged to the daughter of his father’s former partner, Phrida Shand, who lives with her mother. One night he is asked by his friend, Sir Digby Kemsley – a very famous railroad engineer, to come to his flat to discuss something although Kemsley is quite mysterious on the telephone. Royle visits, then returns home only to be summoned again by Kemsley, this time imploring him to return at once. Royle finds a gentleman in Kemsley’s place who is clearly not Kemsley, or is he? Kemsley asks Royle to trust him but that night, a young woman is murdered at Kemsley’s flat. Kemsley has disappeared. Royle discovers that his fiancé was in Kemsley’s flat at the time of the murder and is obviously hiding something. Once again, Le Queux takes us through a maze of intrigue and locations in Europe. This story is very interesting. What would you do if you suspected someone you loved of murder, and all evidence pointed to that? Royale faces that exact situation. He decides to investigate the case himself, and finds himself surrounded by a deeper mystery than he ever could have imagined. Tom W is an excellent reader, and does a nice job with this story. Enjoy!

one of the least favorite from the author. It drags a bit with "tell me, tell me" then "no I can't. I can't" but in between all that, is a devilish tale. Great reader, too.

Nicely done! William never fails to come through with an amazing read! Tom, as always, is my all-time favorite reader! How can he not be? I will listen to this book again.

A great story and well read but for one sniggling irritant that being the way the reader pronounces the word "attitude". This reade in this story and all his other readings pronounces the word as "addeetude" or close to it. I hope someone tells him but I am so very surprised that he does it.

good mystery and worth a listen as is read well, but it is very repetitive regarding 'declarations of love'. Also a number of chapters did not progress the story much at all because it seems the main characters spent most of their time 'telling each other how much they couldn't tell each other'!!

I've liked other Let Queux novels but this one was annoyingly repetitive, and Phrieda the most irritating damsel in distress. The narrator on the other hand did a good job.

Another great book by William le queux; I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t heard of the author before listening to LibriVox books; very well read as always by Tom Weiss

I'm so glad I discovered this mystery author. Very intriguing! Am very enthused also with the voice. He's one of the best!!
