Theatre Royal - Single Episodes
Theatre Royal is a fine British anthology series that features plays based on the best of literature, films, and English theater. Produced in two series, it showcases the talents of Sir Lawrence Olivier and Sir Ralph Richardson, who serve as hosts and narrators, often portraying leading roles.
This series was developed to capitalize on Olivier’s name and talent, with his career spanning over 50 years. The program includes contributions from many fine actors of the British stage and screen, such as Sir John Gielgud, Robert Morley, and Harry Andrews. The music was credited to the renowned British organist and arranger, Sidney Torch.
Produced and directed by Harry Alan Towers for international syndication, the episodes included in this distribution are from the initial US run on NBC. The show remained in active syndication in the United States well into the 1970s, proving that classic stories presented by talented actors never really go out of style.
