Danger, Dr. Danfield - Single Episodes

(4 estrellas; 31 reseñas)

Danger, Dr. Danfield was first broadcast on August 18, 1946, and consisted of 26 episodes, with the last one airing on April 13, 1947. The series starred Michael Dunn as Dr. Danfield, alongside JoAnne Johnson as his secretary, Rusty Fairfax. Written by Ralph Wilkinson and produced by Wally Ramsey, this show is known for its unique blend of detective drama and humor.

Dr. Danfield is portrayed as an obnoxious, unlicensed private investigator and criminal psychologist with an ego complex. The formulaic structure of the show typically involves a crime being committed in the first third, followed by Dr. Danfield solving it, and concluding with a pedantic explanation to Rusty. Despite the show's shortcomings in acting and writing, it offers a light-hearted listening experience, making it suitable for casual listening.

While the characters may not be the most complex, the dynamic between Dr. Danfield and Rusty adds an interesting layer to the narrative. If you're in the mood for mindless detective drama, this series might just be the perfect fit for your drive-time entertainment.

not bad. who wrote that terrible series synopsis?

Other reviewers have gone on about the bad sound, I boosted it thru an extra speaker so I am not going into that. My beef is with whoever wrote that description of the show. It was very untrue and negative. I am disappointed in librivox for letting someone who very obviously simply hated the program write a diatribe about it. I have been listening to all of these librivox old time radio selections. In fact this might be the last crime series I had left to listen too. It isn't the best out of the lot, particularly the audio. Still, it wasn't as badly written, produced and acted as I expected after reading that idiots paragraph at the beginning. Shame on you librivox. Perhaps you should have someone write that shit that values these great old programs. My father remembers all of these old shows. They were very important to a lot of people back in the day. Anyone who sort of likes this stuff could have wrote a more descriptive and useful paragraph then that mean spirited untrue crap.

"I'm ready anytime" says Miss Fairfax.

I like a ‘pretty young miss’ in my old time radio, but if you’re terribly politically correct and miserable as sin then you’re going to hate it. Otherwise, it’s an enjoyable diversion - and contrary to OTRR crass opinion (parroted everywhere else), it’s actually VERY good. On the 'burst of noise' that regularly pops up to shake you out of your skin and ruins a lot of the Danfield episodes - Really, OTRR, if you can't deliver descent audio then just pack up, go home and leave audio transfers to the professionals.

Really not that great

This is a harmless enough series but definitely not my favourite. The story lines were not really original and the character of Dr.Dan and his secretary were cliché and boring. The overly sassy, confident, smart alec Dr. The secretary who can't get enough of him even when he is horribly rude and snappy with her. I'd take a Johnny Dollar episode over any of these any day.

Good shows, bad audio

"Noise artifacts" (on most recordings here)... not from the original recording quality, but from the transference to MP3, resulting in bursts of noise every 10-20 sec which make it impossible to listen on phones. If you're going to do it, DO IT PROPERLY!

Scripts were reused later for other shows

In particular, "The Professor" (aka "Trixie's and the Bank Job") was slightly modified and used again in the series "Stand By For Crime" with the title "Trixie's Bank Heist."

Not that bad

which ever person from OTRR reviewed Danger, Dr. Danfield is not correct. This show is not that bad. as one of the reviewers says below this show is not politically correct, but then again NOTHING from 75 years ago is. Danfield is arrogant, but so are many of the radio detectives I have listened to. I enjoyed most (but not all) of the shows I listened to.

A REAL FIND!

Just as I was getting to REALLY like and know the characters, they pack up and vamoosh outta town! Now that's reet friendly! But I've earmarked them to listen again! Great stuff for a Brit like me (Scottish , really!) to come across! Now on to the next one that catches my eye - the wireless Richard Diamond. Ta ta.

Not THAT bad

Not every program is The Whistler or Sam Spade, Okay.. But This program IS an Okay way to blow off time otherwise spent in front of the idiot box. Even taken as camp value, Danger Dr. Danfield is a worthy addition to your OTR collection! In fact a good crime story would be: I Just shot my TV!
